I spent the weekend with some of my best and oldest friends. It’s a luxury we get about once a year, if we’re lucky, as the six of us have spread out more, and plane tickets are involved now. Years ago, one of us dubbed our group “the Ya-Yas”, and it stuck.
In hindsight, as I returned home and my husband asked how all the Ya-Yas were doing, I realized that three nights (much less three more weekends) might not have been enough time for us all to fully catch up on each other’s lives. But the time we did get was priceless.
We laughed.
We listened.
We cried.
We walked arm-in-arm
and ate
and shopped
and snuggled into the living room chairs of our Airbnb for late night cackles and secrets shared.
We celebrated each other.
We oohed and aahed over each other’s kids - how the time flies!

Friday night, we saw the full moon. And Sunday brought the first day of October, which in my mind, means it’s fall, y’all. ☺️🍁 We didn’t get to cozy up in sweaters, as the temperatures still spoke of summer, but it looks like this is the week the season turns for us here in Arkansas… I see a high of 64F coming next weekend (whoohoo!)
I learned in my training at Circle Yoga Shala that transitions like the turn of the season are good times to take extra care. To offer ourselves extra support.
These in-between transition spaces can expose our vulnerabilities…
One time, I sprained my ankle, right as I planted my foot to push off in a different direction. And just last week, I found myself crying in the kitchen as I was about to take a big business leap with my dance studio - I was right in-between the old and the new, and it was emotional af.
So in this movement from summer to fall, I can’t think of a better time to soak up the love, laughter, and care of my friends. I’m pretty sure I’m headed into this new season more resourced, more grounded, ready for some pretty cool stuff, in large part, due to the Ya-Yas. (Check out what’s coming below! 👇🏼)
I hope you have some Ya-Yas of your own, some extra support for the transition you’re in. Even if it comes in the form of simply drinking a bit more water, getting outside, or going to bed a little earlier. The small stuff adds up in my book. 🙏🏻
Feel free to let me know what you think and how your transition to fall is going. I’d love to see your name pop up in my inbox or in the comments below!

Warwick Schiller’s Journey On Podcast Summit will be a gathering of horse people, but it's not actually about horses. I’ll be presenting with an amazing group of teachers, scientists, coaches, wisdom keepers, and horse people. The whole event will be live-streamed (recordings included if you can’t watch in real time)! Cost: $99
