Hey herd,
I’ve been gearing up for fall registration at my dance studio which is one of the busiest times of year for me. That means putting some other projects on the back burner for a sec. *cough, cough* 😜
I do have an update on Sugar for you, though! Her feet have been checked out, and they got the all clear from both the farrier and the vet. The vet thinks her issues are stemming from a soft tissue injury, so her current owner is treating that now. I hope to have good news in two weeks time! 🤞🏼 Continue to keep your fingers crossed, too?
My dig list this month has to do with de-stressing, because that’s what I’m going to be doing more of in July!
Here’s what’s been tickling my fancy lately:
I took a meditation course a few years ago, and I’m feeling the urge to pick it back up in the way that I learned (twice a day for 15 minutes). Once a day has been helping me maintain my status quo, but to really de-stress, twice is soooo good. The method is called Ziva. And the creator, Emily, is a former Broadway dancer, so she’s right up my alley. She has lots of free resources to check out, too!
I was chatting with my mom about how much I’ve had going on at work, and she shared a mantra of sorts with me that she’s been loving lately: “There’s nothing that serious going on here.” So, so true. I’ve been reminding myself of this daily, and the simplicity of it is helping me remember that most things aren’t as urgent as I think they are… even when (especially when) busyness is inevitable, it’s still ok to stop and smell the roses.
And lastly, have you heard these famous lines from Mary Oliver’s poem, The Summer Day? “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” I recently read the lines preceding these, and they weren’t what I expected:
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?
Somehow, her contemplation of death makes the last two lines less like a kitschy quote on a favorite coffee mug and more like something I can sink my teeth into. More solid and real. Even more inspirational. 🙏🏻
I hope that wasn’t a downer, but Mary Oliver is just… Mary Oliver. Haha. (I should add this to the dig list!)
That’s all for now. Take care, and I hope you’re enjoying the summer as much as I have been!
